GUITAR LESSONS

Introduction

I was nine years old when I first held a guitar. It was love at first sight. I always have my guitar with me. I have been teaching for ten years, and one of my students said something unforgettable after a year of guitar lessons: ‘My guitar is my soulmate.’ With a guitar, you have a friend for life. I want everyone to experience that.

Method
Everyone learns differently. Some want to learn notes and read sheet music, others play by ear. Some want to hear a song first and sing without a guitar, others want to play along right away. Anything is possible. In the first lesson, you can tell me what you want to learn, and I will tailor my lessons accordingly.

After each lesson, I will give you exercises to practise at home. The more you practise at home, the faster we can progress in the lessons.

I will teach you all the basic chords. I pay close attention to your guitar posture and the way you place your hands and fingers on the guitar. The better you master the basic chords, the easier it will be to learn new and more difficult things later on. I can also teach you how to strum the guitar. And if you are interested, I can teach you how to read music.

If you also want to learn to sing while playing, I can teach you simple tricks that make singing easier. I am not a singing teacher, but thanks to my initial training in speech therapy, CVT singing lessons (Complete Vocal Training) and my stage experience as a singer, I have a lot of knowledge about teaching proper breathing and training your breath support.
I can also teach you how to overcome your shyness, if you are shy. Playing and singing will then become great fun.

The lesson can be recorded in audio and, if desired, I can make video clips that you can use to practise at home.

Background

After my first introduction to the guitar, I started taking lessons. After a few weeks, I was already playing three chords, which allowed me to sing simple songs. Soon, you could find me sitting around the campfire during all my holidays in France. To further my skills, I took lessons at the music school with teacher Ton Braas. He taught me to play classical guitar, which helped me learn to strum well. Many years later, I started singing in a jazz trio. We performed jazz standards from the Real Book: Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, to name just a few of my favourite singers. I also played and sang in a piano-guitar-vocals duo, performing French repertoire.

Music, playing the guitar, singing. It has stayed with me my whole life. Even when I went to film school and started making documentaries. I have made many music documentaries.

In addition to making films, I enjoy giving guitar lessons on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I have been doing this for five years now. I want to give you the same pleasure I experienced with the guitar as a child.
